Job Title: Locum Solicitor - University

Location: West Midlands (hybrid working options available)

Hourly Rate: £50 - £60 per hour via an umbrella company

Contract Type: Locum - 3 months (ongoing)

Responsibilities

• Handle a varied caseload of legal matters, including commercial contracts, governance, compliance, and intellectual property.
• Advise departments across the university on practical, risk-based legal issues.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documentation.
• Provide guidance on data protection, employment, and other operational matters.
• Support senior management and committees with governance, risk, and compliance questions.
• Work closely with colleagues to provide pragmatic and commercially sensible solutions.
• Maintain high standards of client service in line with SRA and university expectations.

Qualifications

• Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) with a minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience.
• Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Good commercial awareness and the ability to provide practical solutions to complex issues.
• Experience advising on commercial, governance, or higher education matters is desirable, but not essential.
