Are you ready to shape the future of respiratory care? Great Western Hospital is seeking enthusiastic and forward thinking Locum Respiratory Consultants to join our team as part of an exciting reconfiguration of our respiratory services on a 12 month fixed term contract.

About the Role We are recruiting to help meet the growing needs of our local population. This expansion is driven by rising demand, advances in respiratory medicine, and our commitment to delivering outstanding patient care. You will play a key role in a new service model focused on reducing inpatient stays, enhancing targeted outpatient capacity, supporting better discharge, and empowering patient self management.

Specialist Pathway Development

We actively encourage you to develop subspecialty interests and lead innovative pathways in areas such as:

  • Asthma and biologics therapy
  • Lung cancer and EBUS
  • Sleep and domiciliary ventilation
  • Community respiratory MDT support

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage inpatients on two respiratory wards, co leading daily handovers and ward rounds
  • Develop subspecialty interests (e.g., biologics for asthma, interstitial lung disease, EBUS, interventional pleural work) in line with departmental needs
  • Deliver respiratory expertise "upstream" via community MDTs and upgraded Advice & Guidance
  • Participate in and help expand our pleural and EBUS clinics and run a daily respiratory hot clinic
  • Take part in the general medical on call rota, with potential for a respiratory specialty on call
  • Engage in teaching, clinical audit, continuing medical education, and service development
  • Support and supervise junior colleagues, contribute to clinical governance, and risk management

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Fully registered with the GMC
  • MCRP (UK) or equivalent
Experience
  • Clinical training/experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT
  • Expertise in full range of respiratory conditions
  • Ability to lead a multi professional team and take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Sub specialty interests will be supported
