Locum Consultant General Radiologist with Special Interest (CDC Post)

This post is based at Bedford Hospital. This is an exciting time to be joining Bedford Hospital, which has recently merged with Luton Hospital NHS Trust to become part of the dynamic new Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. There has been improved working and strategic developments across both sites and the Trust aims to work towards implementing integration benefits to the fullest in future, which is part of Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post-holder may be required to work in other outreach clinics and establishments used in the course of Trust business (if necessary for the role).

Main duties of the job
  • Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of all patients presenting to the Hospital
  • To deliver a high-quality imaging service with a focus on subspecialty interests as applicable
  • To share, with colleagues in the Imaging Department, the management of all patients referred to the Trust
  • To share in the general radiology work of the department including currently a 1 in 12 on call rota
  • To support radiographers and sonographer staff in the department and also be involved in the teaching and training of specialist registrars grade, junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students
  • To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit
  • To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD)

Person Specification Registration & Training
  • Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register in General Radiology via CCT or CESR
  • Subspecialty training in Neuro/GI/MSK/oncology/Nuclear Medicine Radiology
Qualifications
  • FRCR or equivalent
  • Postgraduate Degree e.g., MD or equivalent
Clinical Effectiveness
  • Participation in relevant local audits
  • Experience of guideline appraisal
  • Participation in relevant national research and audits
Clinical Experience
  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in General Radiology
  • Proven expertise and training in Neuro/GI/MSK/oncology/Nuclear Medicine Radiology
  • Interventional skills including image guided biopsies, drainages etc
Teaching
  • Knowledge and ability to teach all grades of trainees and medical students
  • Understands learner centred teaching
  • Teaching ability and experience in conducting clinical/radiological meetings
  • Formal teaching qualification
Professional Interest
  • An interest that improves the core clinical service for patients using the imaging service at the Trust
Personal Skills
  • Caring, honest and reliable
