Job Description

Barnsley Hospital is delighted to be inviting applications for a Consultant Anaesthetist tojoin our team. Different specialty interests can be supported, depending on theindividuals area of expertise. This post is to support expansion of the anaesthetic services with Barnsley and to meet activity and servicespecification demands and includes the flexibility to spend a significantamount of time within the job plan to allow for engagement within a specialistarea of your choice with particular reference to Obstetric anaesthesia, Traumaand Orthopaedic anaesthesia and Perioperative medicine.

Withthe recent opening of our bespoke ICU, the pending opening of our 9th Theatreroom plus the addition of being able to offer robotic procedure at Barnsley,this is a real exciting time to be part of a growing team.

Thepost will appeal to a clinician who is looking to join a forward-thinking,motivated and friendly department. Team working is an essential attribute.

Thispost will suit an appropriately trained clinician with CCT (or equivalent) in anaesthesiawho values team work, quality of life and work life balance, forward thinkingdynamic attitudes to patient care, and respect and compassion to all staffmembers, patients and their families.

Person Specification Skills
  • Clinical competence and appropriate training in the range of clinical practice required of the post.
  • Be able to effectively supervise trainees with their clinical practice within the anaesthetic department.
  • The passion and ability to teach and develop junior medical staff, clinical support staff and medical students and enhance their performance.
  • The ability to create, enhance and maintain effective working relationships.
  • The ability to identify the need for and to initiate and implement change and improvement in clinical services.
  • The ability to plan, allocate and evaluate work.
Qualifications
  • FRCA or equivalent with CCT in Anaesthetics at the time of commencing the post.
  • Registered with the General Medical Council and on the Specialist Register (within 6 months of interview)
Knowledge
  • Is on the GMC specialist register or eligible for admission to the register.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the statutory and regulatory environment within which the medical services operate within the NHS.
  • A relevant PGCert or higher, or in progress
  • Evidence of commitment to education and training
  • Evidence of commitment to the chosen subspecialty interest
  • Evidence of higher training and qualifications in the chosen subspecialty interest.
Experience
  • Satisfactory completion of training as required by the Royal College of Anaesthetists as assessed by the College assessor.
  • Suitable experience in all areas of clinical practice required for the post.
  • Additional training/experience in the area of subspecialty experience.
  • Demonstrates commitment to the post applied for.
  • Has ability to empathise and interact effectively with patients and the multidisciplinary team
  • Shows concern for excellence and is able to set, prioritise and monitor performance against objectives.
  • Good team player
  • Is able to gain the commitment of others including peers and patients, presenting themselves positively and showing self-confidence and personal drive
  • Is able to manage personal emotions and stress when under pressure.
  • Accepts responsibility for their own personal and professional development as well as the development of others
