Job Description

Are you practical, reliable and looking for a varied role where you can make a real difference to the safety and day-to-day running of a busy College environment?

We're looking for a Lockdown Technician to join our Estates and Facilities team, supporting the safe, secure and effective operation of our College campuses. From opening and securing buildings to room setups, porterage, events and first-line facilities support, this is a hands-on role where no two days are the same.

What you'll do
  • Lock and unlock College buildings, gates and designated areas.
  • Carry out site checks and support campus security and emergency procedures.
  • Monitor alarms, access points and security concerns.
  • Support room setups for teaching, meetings, examinations and events.
  • Carry out porterage duties, including deliveries, mail and movement of equipment.
  • Maintain external areas and respond to urgent cleaning, spillages and adverse weather issues.
  • Undertake minor repairs and first-line maintenance tasks within your competency.
  • Support examinations, enrolment, open events, commercial hires and lettings.
  • Provide a visible, professional and helpful service to staff, students, visitors and contractors.
  • Report defects, security concerns and Health & Safety issues promptly.
What we're looking for
  • Experience in facilities support, security, caretaking, site support or a similar operational environment.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Good practical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to organise and prioritise tasks and respond calmly to changing demands.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team.
  • A reliable, flexible and proactive approach to work.
  • The ability to undertake moving and handling safely.
  • An awareness of Health & Safety responsibilities.
  • A willingness to undertake First Aid and Fire Warden training.
  • A minimum Level 2 qualification in English and Maths, or willingness to achieve these within an agreed timeframe.
  • Willingness to work across North Star, Queens Drive and other College sites as required.
