About the role

We are seeking to recruit a full time Library Customer Service Attendant, this role is key to providing a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for all users and visitors.

This role is 36.25 hours per week for the duration of the 2026/27 Academic year to cover term time opening hours; it will start in mid September prior to Welcome Week. You are not required to work during the vacation periods.

As part of the front facing team, the post holder will deliver a professional reception service and high quality customer support across multiple channels, including face to face, email, and telephone. Responsibilities include assisting with queries, supporting access to library services, and helping users make the most of their time at the university. The post holder will also contribute to maintaining a secure and well managed library environment by responding to incidents and emergencies, carrying out regular patrols, promoting positive behaviours such as appropriate use of study spaces, and supporting the upkeep of a clean and tidy environment. In addition, the role involves assisting with stock movement and shelving, supporting self service equipment, and contributing to the set up of library spaces for events and activities.

The shift pattern for this role will primarily be 10:00 - 18:00, with occasional requirements for 08:00 - 16:00.

About you

The post holder will be customer focused, approachable, and confident in their communication, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of users.

The successful candidate will be proactive in managing situations and maintaining a positive and welcoming environment, while demonstrating reliability and adaptability, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. They will also be physically active and comfortable undertaking manual tasks, including moving stock and supporting the day to day operation of the Library Service.

A range of GCSEs, including English Language and Maths at Grade C/4 or above, or appropriate equivalent experiential learning, is also required.
