Job Description
Liaison Psychiatry Practitioner

Closing date: 08 May 2026.

Band 6 vacancy in the Liaison Psychiatry Service at Leighton Hospital. We seek professionals with a background in mental health nursing, social work, learning disabilities or occupational therapy who have experience in crisis/liaison work and possess strong risk assessment skills and a compassionate approach to working with patients and their families/carers in A&E or inpatient settings.

Main duties
  • Enhance the Liaison Psychiatry Service by providing prompt assessments and supporting treatment delivery to meet ED 4 hour targets and NHS England response times.
  • Assist in achieving Liaison team KPIs and support acute care staff through mental health education and training.
  • Ensure knowledge of Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, Mental Capacity Act, and Mental Health Act is applied in practice.
  • Receive robust supervision and support professional development.
Qualifications
  • Registered professional qualification in Mental Health Nursing, Learning Disabilities, Social Work or Occupational Therapy and registration with the relevant regulatory body.
  • Evidence of further professional development.
  • Recognised qualification in psychotherapeutic interventions e.g. postgraduate certificate in CBT.
Knowledge and Expertise
  • Up to date knowledge of national and local guidance for Liaison Psychiatry Services (e.g., PLAN, Crisis Care Concordat, National Suicide Prevention Strategy, NICE guidelines).
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and Duty of Candour.
  • Awareness of equality and diversity principles.
  • Understanding of the relationship between physical and mental health and physical pathology.
  • Information technology competence.
  • Understanding of Liaison Psychiatry KPIs and relevant agency arrangements.
  • Experience of multidisciplinary working in the community and within the Trust.
  • Knowledge of Best Interest assessment procedures.
Experience
  • Extensive experience working in a variety of mental health settings and in crisis/liaison roles.
  • Experience of multidisciplinary teamwork.

Salary

£39,959 to £48,117 per annum pro rata.
