Let Estate Building Supervisor 38,000 pa

We're looking for an experienced Buildings Supervisor to organise and manage building maintenance work, alongside small and medium sized projects (up to £200,000). Working across the South Downs you work will encompassing residential, commercial and agricultural property, occupied by our tenants.

This job is a permanent, full time role. The salary will be £38,000 with additional allowances.

What it's like to work here

Working with us, no two days are the same. You could be out on site specifying cottage refurbishments, investigating reactive repairs, organising next year's planned maintenance work or in the office maintaining compliance paperwork.

This is a supervisory role, so you won't be "on the tools", instead, you'll work with external contractors, developing, and managing productive working relationships for a mutually beneficial outcome.

Your contractual location will be the Slindon Estate, Sussex and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.

What you'll be doing

You'll be responsible the day-to-day maintenance and repair of our Let Estate buildings across the South Downs, with properties across Petworth, Slindon village, Saddlescombe Farm and Woolbeding. You'll manage day to day repairs to our properties, through to cottage refurbishments and village wide repairs and redecoration programmes. You'll handle organising planned repairs for residential, agricultural and commercial buildings.

Managing the delivery of budgets for conservation and maintenance works in conjunction with Estate Manager and Building Surveyors, you'll support and develop relationships with contractors. You'll oversee risk management in the delivery of projects and investigating and advising on remedial works to properties. You'll foster positive working relationships with tenants and other key stakeholders alongside our Lettings Officer and Estate Managers.

The role requires strong demonstrable experience in managing delegated budgets and ensuring maintenance works and projects are delivered on budget and on time.

Who we're looking for

We want to hear from you if:

• You have in depth knowledge of buildings pathology, enabling you to identify and make recommendations on remedial and planned works.
• Your communication skills are strong, enabling you to work effectively with contractors, tenants and colleagues within the National Trust.
• You've got a sound understanding of relevant construction legislation, and managing key risks such as asbestos and electrical safety, as well as an understanding of different construction materials and their impact on historic buildings.
• You have awareness of the restrictions on works to Listed Buildings and the relationship between buildings and ecology.
• You're computer literate, using email, word, excel, messaging systems and a bespoke property management system.
