PHSO is an independent national ombudsman service. We make final decisions on complaints that have not been resolved by the NHS in England, UK government departments and some other public organisations. We do this fairly and without taking sides. Our service is free.
About the roleThe Legal Officer will be responsible for assisting in providing legal advice on PHSO casework to the Ombudsman and caseworkers across PHSO.
They will assist with judicial review matters including drafting pre-action responses, acknowledgment of service and/or instructing counsel, and assisting senior colleagues in providing legal advice on corporate issues affecting the PHSO more generally, ranging from commercial matters to employment.
The Legal Officer will proactively and independently manage an appropriate caseload of public law advisory requests on PHSO Casework. They will work as part of the Corporate Services Department providing legal advice that is strategic and rooted in the objectives of PHSO.
