This is an amazing opportunity for an Employment Counsel with law firm experience to join an in-house team with a focus on the UK and EU but will also gain exposure to other global locations.The role of the Employment Counsel is to apply legal theories and principles to solve problems and advise the business on legal, contractual, and regulatory issues. As well as advising on employee relations issues including discipline, performance, works council negotiations, and litigation. The Employment Counsel will resolve matters independently as well as liaising with external counsels. About You - experience, education, skills, and accomplishments Fully qualified UK Lawyer Minimum of 3-5 years of substantive employment law experience at a law firm or combination of law firm and in-house Significant experience with providing day-to-day advice and guidance on employment issues and internal investigations Significant experience engaging with Works Councils Highly organized and able to drive projects to completion Significant experience with handling threatened and filed employment lawsuits and claims in the U.K. and EU. Experience with employment claims outside the U.K./EU preferred but not required Ability and willingness to work on labour and employment issues in multiple countries and jurisdictions is required Experience providing labour and employment advice and guidance as part of M&A activity preferred but not required Experience with employee benefit and compensation plans preferred but not required Strong negotiation and drafting skills Project management skills related to employment law regulatory compliance is required Occasional travel may be required Highly engaged and responsive to internal customers Attention to detail is critical; professionalism and customer-centricity are a must Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and change direction or priorities on short notice Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and SharePoint Foreign language skills a plus but not required Advise on and partner with internal stakeholders, particularly the HR Team, on labour and employment issues primarily in the UK and EU, and globally, including employment claims and grievances filed in various forums, pay transparency regulatory compliance, works council compliance and negotiations, internal investigations, drafting and reviewing various employment related documents and agreements Identify, assess legal risks, and provide strategic advice and guidance on labour and employment issues within the Company Develop and manage project plans to ensure compliance with regulatory changes in various countries, partnering with various teams within the Company Oversee and manage threatened and filed employment related lawsuits and claims against the Company globally but in particular across EMEA. Supervise and manage relationships with and spend on outside employment counsel to ensure the Company receives timely and cost-effective advice Work closely with the HR and Compliance Teams on various internal projects including advising on regulatory changes and requirements and updating policies and procedures Stay apprised of changes to labour and employment laws and regulations and provide strategic guidance on how any such changes may impact the Company and its operations About the Team This role will report into the Vice President, Chief Labour & Employment Counsel based in the US and will collaborate closely with other stakeholders throughout the business including regular contact with Employee Relations.
