What's exciting about the roleAs a Legal Counsel at Verifone, you will be an integral member of our Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) legal team, with a particular focus on English-language, cross-border contracts with our customers and partners around the region. You will collaborate closely with local business leaders to structure, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements, and otherwise provide expert legal advice.
This position also entails close cooperation with our global litigation, employment, and intellectual property (IP) law teams on local law matters. The role will report to the Head of Legal for the EMEA region who is based in London and will work closely with the business leaders across the region. Key Responsibilities:
- Legal Risk Management: Collaborate with business leaders to identify and mitigate legal risks associated with Verifone's operations
- Contract Structuring, Drafting, and Negotiation: Turn commercial proposals into properly structured and drafted contracts and then lead negotiations for those contracts, which may vary between hardware sales agreements, software license agreements, SaaS agreements, services agreements, and others
- RFP Review: Review RFP conditions and responses to ensure compliance with legal requirements and Verifone's global risk policies
- Legal Advisory: Provide general legal advice on the company's operations, with a focus on compliance with local and international laws
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the global litigation, employment, and IP law teams on Nordics and Baltic matters overseen by those teams
- Fully qualified attorney in the United Kingdom
- Minimum of 7 years PQE, with a strong emphasis on commercial law, particularly in cross-border matters
- Must have spent significant time at a distinguished law firm in a commercial practice area (M&A, Finance, Restructuring, Capital markets, etc.)
- Experience working in a multi-cultural environment and on multi-jurisdictional transactions
- Strong contract drafting, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Adaptability and a keen ability to learn and understand new products, services, and laws and work with different parts of the business as demand requires
- Experience with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), and EU Accessibility Act is preferred but not required
