The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems and Smart Grids. This appointment aims to strengthen expertise in core power engineering disciplines and expand our research and teaching capacity in modern energy systems.

With increasing global demand for sustainable and intelligent energy solutions, the department is committed to delivering high-quality education and impactful research in electrical power engineering. This post will play a key role in enhancing the delivery of modules related to power systems analysis and control, smart grids, electrical machines and drives, and supporting curriculum development in alignment with industry needs.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate strong academic credentials and the ability to contribute to both taught and research-led activities within the department.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the Post

The postholder is required to have expertise in Electrical Engineering, with specialist knowledge in the following areas:

  • Power Systems Analysis and Control
  • Smart Grid Technologies
  • Electrical Machines and Drives
  • Power Electronics and Energy Conversion
  • Background in Engineering Management or project-based applications.
  • Engagement with industry partners and external funding bodies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in core and specialist power engineering modules.
  • Supporting the continued development and innovation of power engineering curricula.
  • Supervising final year projects and MSc dissertations.
  • Contributing to the department's research profile through publications, grant capture, and collaborative work.
  • Participating in academic administration and student support activities.
  • Engaging with external stakeholders including industry partners and professional institutions (e.g., IET, IEEE).

Person Specification

  • A PhD in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field
  • Demonstrable expertise and experience in Power Systems, Smart Grids, and/or Electrical Machines and Drives
  • Evidence of successful teaching or demonstrator experience in relevant subjects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching, learning, and student engagement.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Prior involvement in Engineering Management or project-based applications.
  • Record of research publication and/or grant applications.
  • Experience in supervising undergraduate or postgraduate students.
  • Familiarity with simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, ETAP, PSCAD, etc.
