Lecturer in Sustainable Operations Management (Teaching and Research)

The School for Business and Society (SBS) at the University of York is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Sustainable Operations Management (Teaching & Research) to join our Operations, Strategy and Governance group. SBS is a dynamic and recently formed interdisciplinary school, uniquely positioned to lead business and public policy action on complex social and environmental challenges. We bring together expertise across management, business, accounting, finance, social policy and social work to pioneer an interdisciplinary approach for the public good - empowering students and staff to drive positive change. Role

You will develop and lead a programme of original research alongside delivering high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in sustainable operations management. Drawing on expertise in at least one of the following areas - climate resilience and green transitions, sustainable food systems, circular economy and waste reduction, sustainable supply chains, or eco-efficient manufacturing - you will make a significant contribution to the group's research strategy and output.

You will design and deliver engaging, innovative learning experiences, set and mark assessments, supervise student projects, and contribute to curriculum review and development. You will also develop competitive research proposals, pursue external funding, and publish in high-quality journals and other appropriate media. Responsibilities extend to contributing to module and programme administration, postgraduate research supervision, and the collegial life of the department.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

• A PhD in Operations or Supply Chain Management, or a closely related discipline (or equivalent experience), along with an academic professional teaching qualification or willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.
• Specialist knowledge of operations and supply chain management with a demonstrable sustainability focus, and a track record of high-quality research evidenced through publications in internationally recognised journals and/or other appropriate media.
• Experience of teaching and learning in higher education at undergraduate or postgraduate level, including course design, delivery, assessment, and student supervision.
• Proven ability to develop research proposals and secure external funding, with the ambition to build an independent and collaborative research programme that contributes to the group's strategic themes.
• Highly developed written and oral communication skills, including the capacity to present research findings at international conferences and engage effectively with academic and non-academic audiences.
• A collaborative and collegial approach, with commitment to interdisciplinary working, departmental administration, and contributing to the wider academic community.
