Job Description

Job Title: Lecturer in Plumbing

Department: Construction

Reporting to: Curriculum Team Leader - Construction

Salary: £29,565 - £43,562 per annum (subject to progression criteria )

Annual Leave: 45 days per annum plus statutory bank holidays

Contractual Hours: 37 hours per week

Teaching Hours: 864 hours per annum

Basis: Full Time, Permanent

Pension: Teachers' Pension Scheme

Location: Middlesbrough College Main Campus

Salary progression beyond Point 11 is subject to achieving and maintaining QTLS/QTS. Progression beyond Point 14 requires achievement of Advanced Teacher Status (ATS).

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver Plumbing programmes that meet the needs, interests and abilities of all learners.
  • Create a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment that supports learner progress and achievement.
  • Use a range of teaching strategies and resources aligned with best practice and industry requirements.
  • Plan and deliver assessments in line with Middlesbrough College Gold Standards and awarding body requirements.
  • Use diagnostic assessment to identify learner strengths and development needs, implementing appropriate interventions.
  • Participate in internal and external quality assurance processes, including awarding body visits and inspections.
  • Maintain accurate learner records, attendance, assessment and progress data.
  • Support learners beyond the classroom, including availability outside teaching hours when reasonably required.
  • Engage in professional development and industry updating to maintain subject currency.
  • Contribute to course team meetings, curriculum development and recruitment activities such as open events and enrolment.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience Must have:
  • A minimum Level 3 (NVQ or equivalent) qualification in Plumbing/Gas.
  • Qualified teacher status or a willingness to work towards a recognised teaching qualification (PGCE supported).
  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/Level 4 or above (or equivalent).
Desirable experience includes:
  • Teaching Plumbing and/or Gas within a Further Education or training environment.
  • Current sector knowledge and awareness of issues affecting curriculum delivery.
  • Understanding of progression routes and career opportunities within the Plumbing and Gas industry for 16-18 and adult learners.
You will also demonstrate:
  • Excellent communication, organization and time management skills.
  • Confidence in managing learner behaviour positively and effectively.
  • The ability to produce high quality teaching materials using ILT and digital platforms such as VLEs and PowerPoint.
