Job Description
Overview

South Essex Colleges Group is seeking a talented and passionate Art and Design Lecturer at the Southend Campus. The department offers a diverse range of creative courses, including Fine Art, Illustration, 3D Design, Graphics, Photography, and Fashion. The successful candidate will teach a variety of modules, ensuring learners receive a comprehensive, inspiring, and engaging experience.

Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver lessons, workshops and assessments that meet the needs of learners at different levels of study.
  • Provide a stimulating and supportive learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking and independent learning.
  • Take on course leadership responsibilities: oversee planning, development and assessment of student work, manage course documentation and ensure alignment with curriculum.
  • Track and monitor attendance and progress, set clear targets and provide timely feedback to help learners achieve their potential.
  • Maintain high levels of learner engagement and support academic journey from induction to progression.
Qualifications
  • Relevant degree in Art, Design or a related field (or equivalent qualification).
  • Significant teaching experience in a further education environment, ideally within Art and Design.
  • Knowledge and passion for disciplines such as Fine Art, Illustration, 3D Design, Graphics, Photography and Fashion.
  • Experience teaching across levels 1 to 4.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Commitment to high quality teaching and learning, inspiring and motivating learners.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to build positive relationships.
  • Experience with digital platforms, LMS and industry standard software such as Adobe Creative Suite (desirable).
  • Experience with UAL qualifications is desirable.
Teaching Qualification

A teaching qualification such as PGCE or Cert Ed, or a commitment to work towards one, is preferred. For those without a teaching qualification, a minimum Level 3 qualification in the subject specialism plus Maths and English at Level 2 is required before undertaking a Cert Ed Level 5 or PGCE Level 6. The College can fund these in house qualifications.

Working Days & Location

Monday - Thursday. Location: South Essex Colleges Group, Southend Campus.
