We are recruiting Learning Support Assistants to join two specialist schools in Andover this September. These provisions support pupils with a range of additional needs, including SEN (autism, complex learning and communication needs) and SEMH (social, emotional and mental health needs).

Both schools provide structured, supportive environments where staff work collaboratively to help pupils develop academically, socially and emotionally.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting pupils' day-to-day learning and wellbeing. This is a varied position requiring patience, adaptability and a proactive approach.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Encouraging engagement in learning and supporting pupils to stay on task

  • Promoting the development of communication, social and life skills

  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and implementing positive behaviour strategies

  • Assisting with de-escalation where required, following agreed approaches

  • Helping to create a safe, consistent and inclusive classroom environment

  • Working closely with teaching staff, SENCOs and pastoral teams to provide consistent support

In the SEN setting, there is a strong focus on structure, routine and communication support.
In the SEMH setting, the role involves building trust, maintaining clear boundaries and acting as a consistent adult role model.
