Location: WF5, Ossett (commutable from Wakefield, Dewsbury, Batley, Huddersfield & surrounding areas)
Pay: £107 - £120 per day
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm
Start Date: ASAP

We are recruiting a Learning Support Assistant for a specialist SEN school in Ossett (WF5), supporting students from secondary through to post-16. This is a rewarding opportunity to help learners develop communication, independence, and essential life skills in a structured and nurturing environment.

About this role

In this role, you will support a personalised, needs-led curriculum designed for learners with autism and complex needs, focusing on:

  • Communication development using Total Communication, Makaton, PECS, and visual supports
  • Building independence and life skills for adulthood
  • Supporting sensory needs, emotional regulation, and wellbeing
  • Delivering structured, routine-based and experiential learning
  • Working towards EHCP outcomes through tailored support
  • Encouraging engagement through both adult-led and student-led activities
What You'll Be Doing
  • Supporting students 1:1 and in small groups
  • Assisting with structured, sensory and practical learning activities
  • Promoting independence, confidence, and functional communication
  • Supporting behaviour and emotional regulation in a calm, consistent manner
  • Using communication tools (Makaton, PECS, visual timetables)
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and SEN staff
  • Supporting with personal care where required
What We're Looking For
  • Experience supporting individuals with SEN, autism, or complex needs
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to a full-time, term-time role
  • Backgrounds in SEN, care, youth work, psychology, or support work are highly valued
  • Team Teach or behaviour training (desirable but not essential)
