Learning Support Assistant - SEN School (Autism & Complex Needs, Secondary-Post 16)
Location: WF5, Ossett (commutable from Wakefield, Dewsbury, Batley, Huddersfield & surrounding areas)
Pay: £107 - £120 per day
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm

We are recruiting a Learning Support Assistant for a specialist SEN school in Ossett (WF5), supporting students from secondary through to post-16. This is a rewarding opportunity to help learners develop communication, independence, and essential life skills in a structured and nurturing environment.
About this roleIn this role, you will support a personalised, needs-led curriculum designed for learners with autism and complex needs, focusing on:
- Communication development using Total Communication, Makaton, PECS, and visual supports
- Building independence and life skills for adulthood
- Supporting sensory needs, emotional regulation, and wellbeing
- Delivering structured, routine-based and experiential learning
- Working towards EHCP outcomes through tailored support
- Encouraging engagement through both adult-led and student-led activities
- Supporting students 1:1 and in small groups
- Assisting with structured, sensory and practical learning activities
- Promoting independence, confidence, and functional communication
- Supporting behaviour and emotional regulation in a calm, consistent manner
- Using communication tools (Makaton, PECS, visual timetables)
- Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and SEN staff
- Supporting with personal care where required
- Experience supporting individuals with SEN, autism, or complex needs
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to a full-time, term-time role
- Backgrounds in SEN, care, youth work, psychology, or support work are highly valued
- Team Teach or behaviour training (desirable but not essential)
- Competitive daily pay: £107 - £120
