Learning Support Assistant - SEN School (Post-16, Autism & Complex Needs)
Location: WF4 (easily commutable from Wakefield, Barnsley, Huddersfield & surrounding areas)
Pay: £107 - £120 per day
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm
Start Date: 13th of April
Are you passionate about supporting young people with autism and complex needs? We're recruiting a Learning Support Assistant for a specialist SEN school in WF4, working with learners aged 16-25.
This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support young adults as they develop independence, communication, and essential life skills to prepare for adulthood.
About this roleIn this role, you will support the delivery of a personalised, holistic curriculum for learners with Autism and complex needs, focusing on:
- Communication development using Total Communication approaches, including visual supports and sensory strategies
- Building independence, life skills, and preparation for adulthood
- Supporting emotional regulation, wellbeing, and positive behaviour
- Delivering engaging, sensory-based and experiential learning activities
- Working towards EHCP outcomes through tailored, needs-led planning
- Encouraging both structured learning and learner-led engagement
- Supporting learners on a 1:1 basis or in small groups
- Assisting with structured, practical, and sensory learning sessions
- Promoting independence, confidence, and functional life skills
- Supporting behaviour and emotional regulation in a calm, consistent manner
- Using communication tools such as Makaton, PECS, or visual symbols
- Working closely with teaching staff, therapists, and support teams
- Supporting with personal care where required
- Experience supporting individuals with SEN, autism, or complex needs
- A patient, resilient, and compassionate approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A commitment to a full-time, term-time role
- Backgrounds in SEN, care, youth work, psychology, or support work are highly valued
- Team Teach training is desirable but not essential
- Competitive daily pay: £107 - £120
