Learning Support Assistant - SEMH School - Harlow September Start

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential?

We are working with a fantastic SEMH school in Harlow that is looking to appoint a dedicated and resilient Learning Support Assistant to join their supportive team from September.

This specialist setting supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where positive relationships are at the heart of learning. The school is committed to helping pupils build confidence, develop emotional resilience, improve behaviour, and achieve both academically and personally.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the wider pastoral team to provide tailored support, helping pupils engage in learning, manage their emotions, and develop the skills they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

Responsibilities

The Learning Support Assistant will:

  • Support children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour
  • Assist in delivering tailored support and structure to encourage engagement in learning
  • Collaborate with teachers and the pastoral team to monitor progress and behaviour
  • Use a calm, consistent approach to support emotional regulation and social development
  • Contribute to a positive, nurturing, and safe learning environment

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour
  • Patience, resilience, and compassion
  • Genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning
  • Ability to build positive relationships and maintain a calm, consistent approach
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a supportive and collaborative team

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
