Overview

Job Title: Lead Veterinary Surgeon

Salary: Up to £75,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Location: Park Vet Group, Whetstone, Leicester

Job Type: Permanent, full-time (flexible working patterns can be discussed)

Hours: 40 hours over 4-5 days with a 1:4 Saturday rota (8.30am-2pm and 1:15 Sunday (8am-7pm paid extra) no nights, we have a dedicated night team! Bank holidays on a rota (paid extra).

Opportunity: Leadership role with a clinical focus at the Whetstone site.

The Park Vet Group is based in Leicester, a large city with strong travel links, good schools, and access to countryside. The practice offers a supportive environment with a dedicated team structure including a Practice Manager and Clinical Director.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and line-manage a team of veterinarians at the Whetstone site, with clinical support from the Practice Manager and Clinical Director.
  • Maintain a clinical focus with 0.5 days per week allocated for admin time.
  • Provide continuity of care for cases at the Whetstone site and contribute to case discussions during regular team meetings.
  • Collaborate with specialists and benefit from in-house facilities including CT, dental suites with dental X-ray, video endoscopy, ASIF kit, TPLO/TTA/Tightrope, arthroscopy, and advanced ophthalmology equipment.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, with support for certificate studies; participate in internal CPD events and discussions of clinical cases.
Requirements
  • RCVS registration and a minimum of 5 years general practice experience.
  • Existing line-management experience is desirable but not essential; development support into leadership is available.
  • A passion for leading and developing a team; GDP advisor or desire to become a GDP Advisor.
  • Ability to perform routine neutering (cats and dogs of all sizes) without support, including FLANK cat spays.
  • Ability to perform abdominal ultrasound, TFAST, and AFAST imaging without support.
  • Ability to perform exploratory laparotomies, splenectomies, GDVs, gastrotomy and enterotomy without support.
  • Confidence with routine consults (approximately 15 minutes) and routine dental cases.
