Job Description
Lead Tobacco Dependency Advisor

Closing date: 30 April 2026

This post is responsible for meeting the objectives defined in the Tobacco Dependence Delivery Model defined by NHS England. The role ensures the Tobacco Dependence Programme delivers its specified outputs within agreed time, cost, and quality tolerances with the Acute ward, provides smoking cessation data metrics, and supports mobilisation and delivery of the programme.

Job Responsibilities
  • Deliver the Tobacco Dependence programme aims and objectives.
  • Ensure the project delivers the outcomes/benefits it aims to achieve.
  • Ensure the project meets pre defined stakeholder expectations.
  • Support mobilisation and delivery of the programme within the acute ward.
  • Manage the Smoking Cessation Advisor.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships between the IS programme lead and other organisations delivering Tobacco Dependence schemes.
  • Support the priorities of the Princess Alexandra Hospital Trust in relation to this project.
  • Co ordinate delivery of programmes arising from the NHS England Tobacco Dependence programme.
  • Work closely with IT to ensure data metrics are achieved, collated and collected in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with departments across PAH to secure a collective approach to smoking cessation and smoke free hospitals.
  • Support analysis of Smoking Cessation including impact of any changes (e.g., increase in quit rates); write regular reports detailing patterns and trends.
  • Implement and promote the Trust's policies and procedures relating to all areas of employment and service delivery.
Qualifications
  • Educated to post graduate degree level or equivalent, or significant relevant experience.
  • Completion of the National Centre of Smoking Cessation and Training modules (must be completed if successfully recruited).
  • Relevant teaching qualification or experience.
Experience
  • Experience of leadership without direct authority.
  • Experience working as part of a multi disciplinary team.
  • Experience of managing members of staff, line management and supervision.
  • Experience of leading, developing and managing a new service.
  • Experience of leading projects and developing plans for service changes and improvements.
  • Significant experience working within a healthcare/health setting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NHS long term plan for tobacco dependency.
  • Knowledge of tobacco dependency provision within the wider community.
  • Knowledge of pharmacological treatments available to smokers, indications and side effects.
  • Experience of using research to develop a research aware culture.
  • Experience working with people in a behaviour change context.
  • Experience with data input, collection, analysis, audit and evaluation.
  • Experience using databases.
  • Experience working in the NHS at a band 6 level.
  • Experience of managing reports on risks and issues.
