Overview of the role

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Lead Technical Architect to play a key leadership role within our organisation. As Lead Technical Architect you will work across various levels to translate business strategy into actionable change and technical delivery. Senior Enterprise Architects will also support lead architects in shaping, aligning, and driving the organisation's strategic direction, ensuring it is effectively developed, agreed upon, and implemented.

  • Proactively seek opportunities for digital transformation
  • Support multiple teams, finding and using best practice and emerging technologies
  • Inspire other architects and help them understand how to deliver the goals of the organisation
  • Be responsible for governance, solving complex and high-risk issues or delivering architecture design

Qualifications
  • Proven track record working at a mid to senior level within large-scale end-to-end digital delivery, informed by implementation of enterprise-wise strategies.
  • Experience mentoring junior team members, with an understanding of how to create a collaborative and innovative culture that drives high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Experience in a wide range of COTS and full stack deliveries so you can advise and challenge delivery teams and architecture colleagues to find the best way forward for Defence.
  • Expert in tools, methodologies, and frameworks to support complex architectural design, governance, strategic development and stakeholder communication, for example the use of design patterns, modelling languages and component building blocks.
  • A great listener with excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentational), including the ability to articulate complex architectural concepts clearly to technical and non-technical users, adapting communication style, language, and format to fit the needs of the audience.
  • Experience building positive relationships across diverse stakeholder groups; able to understand and manage multiple perspectives, build consensus, and influence stakeholders at all levels, encouraging them to make decisions that align with the strategy, policies, principles and best interests of the enterprise.
  • A flexible approach, capable of managing uncertainty, adapting to changing priorities and providing direction to others to overcome ambiguity and deliver at pace.
  • Hands-on and recent experience in both high-level design and low-level design using Archimate.
  • Experience working in agile, hybrid and waterfall delivery environments and a strong understanding of how each affects the workflow of architecture.
