Job overview To provide leadership and operational management of all nurses within the Harrow CAMHS team, and along with the other multi-disciplinary professional leads, support the team manager by ensuring team structures and policies are adhered to, as well as supporting the development of new ways of working. The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures. They will utilise research skills for audit to support policy and service development; and undertake research within the area served by the service and of relevance to young people their families and carers.

Main duties of the job The post holder will focus on;

Contributing to highly specialist assessments and treatment of children and young people with complex and high-risk mental health presentations including outreach work.

Supervise and manage the Enhanced Treatment Team within Harrow CAMHS. Ensuring effective clinical care is provided in line with clinical governance and best practice. Meeting service line performance targets.

Support the development of new services and protocols as dictated by CAMHS Transformation plans and good practice.

In line with service needs, the post holder will also provide CAMHS assessment and intervention as well as providing interventions and supporting case formulation and treatment plans in line with best practice and evidence-based interventions.

The post holder will provide advice and consultation to the team on nursing interventions with a focus on the most complex children and families. The post holder will provide operational management and clinical supervision to the Harrow CAMHS nurses, and where appropriate other staff, and have line management and clinical oversight of all job plans for Harrow CAMHS nurses.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities Provide comprehensive CAMHS assessments of children and young people. Formulate and implement plans for the treatment and/or management of the child/young person's problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.

Be responsible for implementing a range of interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis.

Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options considering both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.

To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of children and young people whose problems are managed by psychologically based standard care plans.

Provide specialist advice guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to children and young people' formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.

Person specification Education and Qualifications
  • Degree/diploma in Nursing
  • Current professional registration with the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) RMN.
  • Research training
  • CYP IAPT training
  • MSC level training in a relevant specialist field or appropriate experience
  • Post registration training in a treatment modality to diploma/degree standard as a minimum such as CBT
Experience
  • CAMHS specific Significant experience of working within a CAMHS team.
  • Experience of resolving complex admission and discharge delays
  • Experience of managing and supervising others in a clinical and performance management context including appraisals
  • Experience of developing operational protocols and managing duty cover systems
  • Experience of leading and developing multi-partnership collaboration arrangements at a senior level
  • Experience of delivering training to colleagues
  • Experience of developing bespoke training packages for non CAMHS professionals

  • Able to confidently and competently undertake generic and emergency CAMHS assessment
  • Understands developmental issues for children and able to adapt interventions accordingly
  • Understands the need for and able to competently assess risk

  • Experience of providing consultation and liaison support to colleagues, referral agencies and services responsible for the care, support and wellbeing of service users and their families/carers
  • Able to promote self management and recovery by working with service users and their families to understand their condition and identify and reinforce strengths, resources and coping skills
