About The Role:

Shift Pattern: 40 hours across 7 days

Role Overview

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Lead Engineer with a strong HVAC background to oversee the engineering operations at our Sea Life attraction in Birmingham. This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth running of all technical systems, with a particular focus on HVAC systems critical to aquatic life support. You will lead a small team of engineers, manage contractors, and ensure all maintenance activities are carried out efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, motivate, and develop a small team of on-site engineers.
  • Allocate tasks, monitor performance, and ensure high standards of work.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of HVAC systems, ensuring optimal conditions for aquatic environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues promptly.
  • Manage and prioritise reactive and planned maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and timely completion of work orders.
  • Monitor and maintain engineering stock levels.
  • Order parts and materials as needed, ensuring cost-effective procurement.
  • Liaise with and supervise external contractors and service providers.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety and site-specific protocols.
  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with relevant legislation and internal policies.
  • Conduct risk assessments and maintain safety documentation.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven experience in a lead engineering role, ideally within a leisure, hospitality, or aquatic environment.
  • Strong HVAC expertise, preferably with experience in life support systems.
  • Experience managing teams and contractors.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Relevant engineering qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or equivalent).
  • IOSH/NEBOSH certification is desirable.
