We are now recruiting for an Lead Engineer C&I to be involved in delivering an industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of nuclear power station.
What we're looking for
An Lead Engineer C&Iworking in an innovative and diverse C&I Function. The Instrument Design Engineer will join a team providing sensors, field instrumentation, connectors and cable solutions for the Rolls Royce SMR Nuclear Power Plant. The job will involve specification and selection of nuclear qualified as well as Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) instruments, including smart instruments, and associated cabling systems. And the interfaces with the plant process, layout and C&I systems teams.
Support C&I Systems Engineers and Plant Systems Engineers to translate high level requirements into a specification for sensors, field instruments, connectors and cables.
Engage with Systems engineers and vendors and review of documentation to select candidate devices for meeting the specifications.
Assess and substantiate that the candidate device's design and performance specification meets the functional and interface requirements specifications.
Support the assessment of smart devices using an agreed approach (e.g. against EMPHASIS, IEC 61508, IEC 62671).
Lead the hardware type test qualification of sensors, field instrumentation, connectors and cable solutions liaising with SQEP Software engineers for the software related elements of the review and qualification of the instruments/components.
Write Validation Plans and define test vehicles to demonstrate that the instrument, cable and connector requirements have been satisfied.
Liaise with other disciplines to understand functional and non-functional performance capabilities of components of the system to facilitate effective component design.
Support to planning and implementation of policies and procedures related to the life cycle of instruments, cables and connectors.
Ensure that optimum solutions are provided for the Rolls-Royce SMR Nuclear Power Plant by supporting the procurement, production, and maintenance aspects of the equipment.
Act as the custodian for ensuring the standardisation of sensors, field instrumentation, connectors and cable solutions across RR SMR.
Contribute to the production of safety cases and provide support in liaising with regulators and independent nuclear safety assessors.

Knowledge and experience of relevant industry standards for systems important to safety (e.g. IEC 61508, IEC 61226, IEC 61513).
Application of Advanced System Methodologies
Knowledge and experience of applying systems engineering methodologies including Model Based Systems Engineering to C&I systems.
Effective Stakeholder Communication
Experience in taking information, understanding, and presenting it in an appropriate and compelling format, which includes formal communications to the appropriate stakeholders.
Technical Oversight Proficiency
The ability to provide technical oversight of the work carried out by supply chain partners i.e., discharging the intelligent customer role.
Training & Qualification Requirements
Hold a degree level qualification in one or more of the engineering disciplines of electrical, electronics, instrumentation, control systems, mechatronics, physics or computer science.
Applicants without a degree who can nevertheless demonstrate suitable experience may also be considered.
