This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join a fast-paced, acute Mental Health Service and play a key role in shaping the care pathways and building the culture alongside the senior leadership team.
Main duties of the jobAs the Lead Consultant Psychiatrist, you will be responsible for the overall clinical leadership of the medical team, including the development of clinical pathways, clinical governance, and the provision of high-quality clinical supervision. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to provide holistic care for patients, lead the Care Programme Approach process, and collaborate with external care coordinators and commissioners. Additionally, you will support the Hospital Director with in-service and business planning activities, participate in the internal CPD programme, and contribute to the efficient running of the services.

You will be responsible for overall clinical leadership of the medical team including development of clinical pathways, clinical governance, and high-quality clinical supervision.

- Responsible for a caseload in accordance with NICE guidelines
- Lead multidisciplinary teams in providing holistic care for patients and support colleagues
- Lead the Care Programme Approach process, provide medical reports, and endorse CPA meeting minutes
- Liaise and collaborate with external care coordinators and commissioners
- Work with GPs and practice nurses to ensure high-quality physical health care for patients
- Undertake administrative duties related to patient care
- Support the Hospital Director with in-service and business planning activities
- Participate in annual appraisals for Consultants
- Attend and participate in Elysium's academic programme, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD
- Joint-lead managers and colleagues to ensure efficient service operations
You will also be required to take part in the On Call Consultant rota.
To be successful, you should:
- Be medically qualified, with MRC Psych or equivalent
- Hold Section 12(2) approval and Approved clinician status
- Have full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- Be innovative, with the ability to initiate corporate decisions
- Have a strong understanding of current developments in psychiatry and mental health
- Possess substantial knowledge of change management, legislation, and contractual issues in mental health
- Have previous experience in a management role as a Consultant
