We have a new opportunity for a Lead Cloud Engineer to join us. Reporting into the Platform Engineering Manager, you'll be responsible for the safe adoption of our managed IaaS cloud through improving delivery best practice across our engineering teams and performing tech leadership in AWS hosted Managed Public IaaS (MPI) solutions. You'll drive continuous improvements in our AWS cloud capability through technical excellence, operational oversight, resilience improvements and quality assurance. You'll be able to demonstrate solid AWS experience and comprehensive skills in Virtual Machine configuration management and have strong awareness of good operational management principles.

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least two days a week (40%) away from home, moving to three days a week (60%) in the future. Away from home means either attendance at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events.

What you'll be doing
  • Developing and supporting solutions to manage and automate our MPI development, test and production environments to improve the customer value flow
  • Providing systems administration and operational support to development teams across both on-premise and cloud environments
  • Leading a technology team from within, contributing to the design and development of secure and efficient application and infrastructure components, both internal and external facing, with a strong focus on business outcomes
  • Carrying out analysis, design and consultancy for build and implementation of IT solutions to meet complex business needs
  • Ensuring solutions are developed in line with strategic target architecture both from an application design and Infrastructure/platform perspective
  • Partnering with solution architects and global product management to define standardized solution and services baselines, application add-ons and industrialized delivery options
  • Identifying opportunities for improving methods, processes and use of toolsets
  • Managing platform cost controls through working with our FinOps practice
  • Collaborating with our Cyber security teams to continually improve our security posture
  • Supporting identification and management of technical debt concerns

What you'll bring
  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator Certification
  • Terraform Associate (HashiCorp) Certification
  • Strong experience and knowledge of automation tools and continuous delivery techniques with the ability to implement these into new environments
  • Awareness of current and emerging technology trends in cloud platforms
  • Experience with AWS security models and enterprise integration patterns
  • Solid experience of networking and networking security practices
  • Ability to improve operational practices and manage third party suppliers to a high standard
  • Good stakeholder management skills
  • Prior experience of mentoring juniors and peers
