Job Description
Working as a Lead Analyst (Social Care) at LaingBuisson offers the opportunity to become a leading expert in the social care sector, supporting our clients and the wider industry to understand real-life business problems through a deep understanding of the available data.
You will be an integral part of our research team and take the lead on delivering critical aspects of our industry-leading market reports, as well as supporting report writers with your data analysis and insight skills. You will also form part of our consultancy service, using your excellent quantitative and qualitative research skills to provide bespoke advice to our clients.
This opportunity would suit a dynamic and motivated individual with a passion for the use of data to improve understanding in the social care sector. You will be comfortable managing your own workload, proactive in identifying improvement opportunities and in engaging with colleagues across the organisation to support the delivery of wider business objectives,
We are specifically looking for someone with some experience working in data analytics and/or with a research background, ideally within the social care sector, who is looking to develop their skillset and expertise as part of the next stage of their career.
Key responsibilities include:
To represent LaingBuisson as the Lead Analyst for work in the social care sector and take broad ownership of the role of subject matter expert in relation to social care data
To be accountable for the data gathering and analysis that supports the production of approximately 5 market reports per year, working with colleagues in the research and data teams as well as the authors and our production team.
To support the production of market reports through taking a lead role in writing the Market section of Market Reports, to develop marketing materials, and to develop other sections as agreed with the Report Product Owner
To lead the research, validation and preparation of data in support of market reports and other LaingBuisson projects in the social care sector
To own the data sources associated with the social care sector, and to proactively ensure they are kept updated and to horizon scan to assess the relevance of new data sources that may add value to the LaingBuisson product
To support the delivery of consultancy engagements associated with the social care sector, including presenting and reporting data analysis to clients To take an active role in the continuous improvement of LaingBuisson's product and services by identifying ways of working more effectively and more efficiently
To work flexibly across the organisation to support the delivery of LaingBuisson business objectives, particularly as they relate to the healthcare sector
To undertake other duties as necessary commensurate to a role of this level and nature.
Personal skills and attributes:
Key skills:
Subject Matter Expertise - Strong experience of working with quantitative data with minimal oversight, ideally within the health and/or social care sector
Education - Educated to at least bachelor's degree (minimum 2:1) level in economics, data analytics or a similar discipline
Data Analysis - Confident with numbers and statistical data, and able to use this expertise to develop models that underpin our forecasting and estimates of market sizes and structures.
Comfortable interrogating datasets, developing and carrying out data-led analysis to inform our products, recognising anomalous data and pro-active in following through in QA
Technical Ability - Advanced knowledge of Excel is essential. This includes complex formula creation, using integrated spreadsheets, and reviewing/refining existing formula-driven workbooks as part of an ongoing QA/continuous improvement process
Data Analysis - Comfortable with interrogating data sets, identifying logical reasoning, including the use of Excel formulas and performing straightforward calculations like percentage differences.
Knowledge - Familiarity with the social care system in the UK, its data sources and their strength and limitations desirable
Communication - Comfortable communicating complex research and analysis findings to non-expert audiences both in writing and verbally. You will be able to write well in your own right and contribute to proof-reading and editing reports
Researching new datasets - Skilled in sourcing, cleaning, and analysing large publicly available datasets to extract meaningful insights Financial / annual reports knowledge - Ideally some experience of reading reports in order to identify and extract relevant information
