Languages Curriculum Leader and Teacher of Welsh - Abersychan School

Secondment opportunity for a Languages Curriculum Leader and Teacher of Welsh at Abersychan Comprehensive School.

The role starts on 1 September 2026 and runs for 32.5 contractual hours on a full time basis. The successful candidate will fill a maternity cover position within the Languages Department and will work closely with the Assistant Headteacher Pedagogy to embed the Siarter Iaith Cymraeg Campus and raise the profile of Welsh across the school community.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing strong leadership and curriculum oversight for the Welsh teaching programme.
• Supporting teachers, developing teaching resources, and ensuring effective delivery of curriculum across the age range.
• Working collaboratively with the senior leadership team to raise standards and secure good outcomes for students.
• Engaging with pupils, staff, parents and the wider community to promote Welsh language learning.

Expected qualifications and skills:

• Registration with the Education Workforce Council is required.
• Fluency in Welsh - Welsh language skills are essential for this position.
• Experience of leadership within a secondary school environment, particularly in the Welsh curriculum.
• Demonstrated commitment to improving provision for students from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and will be subject to a comprehensive screening process including an Enhanced check with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
