Job Description

The Kids Ministry Supervisor - Primary is responsible for the preparation, delivery and supervision of safe, welcoming, age-appropriate Kids ministry environments for primary school aged children during Sunday services and relevant midweek activities. The role supports the Kids oversight in delivering engaging teaching, curriculum, volunteer coordination, parent communication and safeguarding-compliant environments, ensuring children are cared for, encouraged and spiritually nurtured in alignment with SOUL Church's values.

Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Preparing Sunday service materials, activities, and environments suitable for primary school age children
  • Welcome children and families, creating a friendly and safe atmosphere for Sunday services and mid-week connections
  • Supervise and care for children during services, always ensuring their safety and wellbeing
  • Deliver age-appropriate teaching and activities through curriculum and training of team
  • Encourage positive behaviour, participation, and interaction among children
  • Oversee set-up and tidy-up of classrooms, play areas, and materials before and after services
  • Support volunteer rotas, briefings and communication to ensure the Primary area is well prepared and safely staffed
  • Supervise and support volunteer teams in delivering activities and care, fostering teamwork, consistency and collaboration
  • Help onboard, train and support volunteers so they understand expectations, safeguarding practice and session routines
  • Liaise with parents or guardians as needed, providing updates or guidance regarding children's participation
  • Maintain accurate awareness of attendance, incidents, accidents and ratios and any practical follow-up as required
  • Attend weekly Kids meetings and play an active role in outworking the vision of Kids ministry
Skills and Attributes
  • A caring and patient attitude with a genuine love for working with children
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, adaptable to both children, parents, volunteers and staff
  • Ability to work as part of a team and take direction from the Kids oversight
  • Organised, reliable, and conscientious in preparation and execution of tasks
  • Able to supervise volunteers with warmth, clarity and consistency
  • Good awareness of safeguarding, confidentiality and appropriate boundaries when working with children and families
Pastoral Care and Safeguarding
  • Provide appropriate first-line pastoral care, encouragement and practical support to children and families, escalating pastoral, welfare or safeguarding concerns as appropriate
  • Follow all safeguarding requirements, ensuring policies, ratios, sign-in/sign-out processes and reporting procedures are upheld
  • Record and elevate accidents, incidents, welfare concerns and safeguarding concerns promptly in line with SOUL Church policy
  • Ensure volunteers serving in the area understand and follow safeguarding expectations, session routines and safe working practices
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming environment where every child is valued and protected

Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned by your Line Manager as required

Objectives
  • 100% of programmed sessions prepared before children arrive
  • 100% safeguarding training compliance for role holder. 100% safeguarding concerns escalated within required timescales. 100% incident/accident/safeguarding records completed accurately and promptly
  • 100% of sessions operate within agreed ratio expectations
  • Volunteer briefing completed before each Sunday/session. Volunteer rota communicated in advance according to agreed internal timeline
  • 80%+ positive response in annual volunteer engagement survey on clarity, support and feeling valued
  • 80%+ positive response on safety, welcome, communication and child experience. Parent concerns acknowledged or escalated within agreed internal timescale
  • Behaviour concerns recorded and escalated where patterns emerge
  • 80%+ positive feedback target on teamwork, communication, reliability and contribution to atmosphere, where survey data is available. Annual staff/team engagement feedback reviewed
  • Up to three annual priorities agreed by start of ministry year. Measures of success agreed for each priority. Progress reviewed quarterly
