Junior Mechanical Design & Prototyping Engineer (Hands-On)
Posted 8 hours 14 minutes ago by AEROX
We are a specialised company in the chemical industry focusing on polymer solutions for wind turbine rotor blades. We are a team of innovators and idealistic experts and our challenge is to transform society's mindset through renewable energies. We work with the most important global manufacturers of wind turbines blades operating internationally. In line with our growth strategy, we are currently seeking a motivated and curious new member to join our team and contribute to our technology department.
Mission: You will develop tools and prototypes to improve the application process for our protective coatings. This includes designing, manufacturing, and hands-on iterative testing of tooling solutions, as well as contributing to automated setups that enhance process performance. You'll be responsible for the design, prototyping, manufacturing, and testing phases, working closely with the product team to validate and refine each solution.
Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical Design & Automation
- Design, build, and adapt manual and semi-automated tools for applying protective coatings on wind turbine blades.
- Analyze the coating application process and identify technical improvement opportunities.
- Conduct functional tests on real blades, collect and analyze performance data, and drive iterative design improvements.
- Support the development of automated systems by contributing to part selection, supplier communication, and design input for automation components.
- Document procedures and design iterations based on test outcomes.
3D Printing & Prototyping
- Manage the in-house prototype production process - from CAD design to ready-for-test parts.
- Operate 3D printers, including slicing, monitoring, post-processing, and troubleshooting.
- Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, and basic repairs on additive manufacturing equipment.
- Select, test and stock materials based on design requirements and propose alternatives when needed.
- Optimize design geometry for additive manufacturing (DfAM).
- Ensure high-quality, repeatable output and fast turnaround to support rapid iteration cycles.
What We're Looking For
Education & Background
- Degree in Design Engineering, Additive Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical training.
- 0-2 years of experience in 3D printing, rapid prototyping, or lab-based product development (internships welcome).
- Proficiency in 3D CAD and slicing tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Cura, PrusaSlicer, PreForm).
- Knowledge of mechanical design and ability to translate functional needs into technical solutions.
- Familiarity with common 3D printing materials (PLA, ABS, PETG, resin, flexible filaments) and their behavior.
- Basic programming skills and understanding of sensors, actuators, or composite materials are a plus.
Mindset & Soft Skills
- Hands-on, proactive, and detail-oriented.
- Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking.
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of technical challenges.
- Eager to learn, experiment, and improve continuously.
- Motivated to work in an environment where what you design gets built, tested, and applied.
Why Join Us?
- Be part of a real product development cycle with direct impact on performance and innovation.
- Gain hands-on experience in both automation and additive manufacturing.
- Work in a collaborative, supportive, and technically challenging environment.
- Learn from experienced professionals and grow your skills in a fast-evolving industry.
- Contribute to the renewable energy sector and help shape the future of wind technology.
- We offer flexibility, a l ong-term project, good conditions and benefits.
