Job Description

We currently have a vacancy for a Junior Butcher to join our store. You will receive first class training and development in our meat department with one of Ireland's leading retailers.

Main purpose of the role:

  • Ensure the Meat department operates efficiently and effectively at all times and provide our customers with excellent quality products and services.
Desired skills and experience
  • A passion for food and the ability to inspire shoppers
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Previous customer service experience is an advantage
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
  • Numerical skill
  • The ability to work as part of a team in a fast paced environment and to multi task under pressure
  • HACCP training is beneficial but not essential

Key responsibilities
  • Maintain retail cuts at a high standard in accordance with customer needs
  • Drive sales through ensuring SOPs and store standards are met daily
  • Merchandise and present the department to the highest standard
  • Implement planograms correctly
  • Control stock rotation so that quality and freshness of goods are of the highest standard
  • Manage waste and shrink in the department
  • Ensure continuous improvement in the Meat Department by remaining up to date with new products and initiatives
  • Enhance product knowledge by gaining information from a range of sources and share ideas, suggestions and builds
  • Engage with new initiatives and embrace new ways of working

During your role, you may be given the opportunity to complete the 2 year Craft Butcher Apprenticeship, working towards a Certificate in Craft Butchery at QQI Level 5 Major Award. For more information, view the short video clip at

About the locality: Kelly's SuperValu Boyle has a strong meat trade in a busy store.

We are planning a large store revamp for January 2027, focusing on modernising the entire store and developing the counters as a point of difference.

We are looking for a driven, experienced Butcher who can add craft to our counter.
