Java Backend Developer

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Java Backend Developer to join a high-impact public sector programme, In Backend Development, you will play a key role in modernising Middleware systems, migrating Java EE libraries, and delivering robust integrations using modern Java technologies.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale, mission-critical systems in a collaborative Agile environment.

Note: Candidates must hold active SC clearance or be eligible and willing to undergo SC clearance.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Back End services using Java 17/21 and Spring MVC
• Lead and execute Java EE library migrations and Middleware upgrades
• Work with Oracle 19C for database development and optimisation
• Develop and support SOAP and REST integrations to ensure system interoperability
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, secure, and scalable solutions
• Contribute to technical decisions, problem solving, and continuous improvement initiatives

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 5+ years of Back End application engineering experience
• Strong expertise in Java Back End development and Middleware technologies
• Hands-on experience with Java 17/21, Spring MVC, Oracle 19C, SOAP/REST services
• Experience working in Agile delivery environments
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
