The Opportunity

In this position you will be joining a team that acts as the primary interface for business engagement in the delivery of the project and service portfolios. You will work closely with Business Change teams and business experts and partner with them to deliver large programmes of work and ensure engagement and formal agreement throughout. You should be able to move seamlessly between traditional waterfall methods of project development and agile methods.

You will have a keen interest in utilising your Programme Management skills and experience across a broad range of emerging and existing technologies including power systems, digital transformation, data analytics and cloud based developments.

This is an exciting time for EirGrid as we embark on a new strategy to deliver the solutions required to transform the power system in support of the transition to renewable energy. This role will suit a Programme Manager who is passionate about change and making a difference, is able to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and is experienced in stakeholder management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partnering with the business to deliver large transformation programmes aligned with the business strategy
  • Promoting a user centred design approach to the development and implementation of projects and services
  • Managing the programme delivery of a broad range of projects in support of our IT transformation including digital solutions, data analytics, cloud based developments, control centre tools and market and energy management system evolution
  • Leading the development of the overall approach for the programme, its major time frames and the definition of its major deliverables to address and meet the desired goals and outcomes
  • Within large projects, defining and maintaining realistic project plans, monitoring progress against agreed quality and performance criteria and ensuring programmes of work are correctly allocated and resourced
  • Partner with the executive sponsor to communicate program goals, objectives and potential outcomes and to realise business benefits.
  • Present programme/project plans, technical roadmaps, risks and recommendations to senior business leaders
  • Working with project managers to provide support and guidance for the individual projects within a programme of work
  • Establishing and ensuring appropriate governance functions for the programme in accordance with EirGrid policies and practices
  • Developing and controlling the programme budget, and managing expenditure within agreed spending plans
  • Balancing the availability of the required skills and competencies across project teams within the programme
  • Acting as an advisor, building and maintaining relationships with management and business stakeholders.
  • Monitoring and coordinating dependencies across the projects in the programme and resolving conflicting demands.
About You
  • Certified Programme Manager with proven Programme Management experience of at least 8 plus years
  • Experience with Project and Programme management frameworks (e.g. MSP, PMI, PRINCE2)
  • Extensive experience in structuring and executing complex projects as a project manager
  • Experience applying formal project management methodologies and disciplines for a programme or multiple projects
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to develop and communicate the programme objectives, inspire and motivate staff, and maintain alignment with the business strategy
  • A high degree of political sensitivity, astuteness and the ability to use the informal power structure of the organization to achieve programme success and overcome obstacles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain and "sell" the programme goals and objectives to the business, as well as technical leadership
  • Excellent analytical, strategic planning and execution skills
  • Ability to develop programmes and deliver them with financial and resource constraints.
  • Highly motivated and proactive, with a natural curiosity and drive to improve how things are done
