The TeamThis role is part of a well established Technology Services Group. The Technology Services group has accountability for IT Architecture, IT Operations (both applications and infrastructure) as well as Data and AI. This encompasses the IT systems that run Ireland's electricity grid, the all island electricity market as well as EirGrid's corporate IT estate.
The OpportunityThe IT Operational Governance & Continuous Improvement Lead will be accountable for establishing, embedding, and evolving governance, assurance, and continuous improvement practices across the Technology Services Group. This role is key to ensuring that the technology that underpins Ireland's electricity grid and market is resilient, audit ready, and continuously improving-supporting the transition to a low carbon power system.
Key Responsibilities- Establish and own IT operational governance: Design, implement, and continuously evolve governance frameworks with a practical model for IT service management, operational risk, compliance, and assurance. Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on operational governance, risk posture, and control maturity with alignment to recognised industry standards and frameworks.
- Lead continuous improvement across IT operations: Establish a structured continuous improvement capability, using data, KPIs, and lessons learned to drive measurable improvements in service performance, resilience, and efficiency.
- Define and evolve service performance management: Define outcome focused operational KPIs and service health metrics across IT. Ensure performance insights are meaningful, outcome focused, and support executive decision making.
- Embed compliance and assurance across IT services: Ensure IT operations meet regulatory, legislative, and policy obligations.
- Promote a culture of accountability and operational excellence: Champion a consistent, disciplined approach to governance, risk management, and continuous improvement across IT teams.
- Proven track record of establishing and embedding governance and measurable continuous improvement within a technology function (cost, quality, resilience, customer outcomes).
- Strong governance and analytical skills, with the ability to identify systemic issues, trends, and risk drivers rather than focusing only on symptoms.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively and influence senior leaders, peers, and suppliers.
- Highly developed communication skills coupled with strong data fluency and attention to detail, including the ability to produce clear, concise, executive level reporting.
- Strong planning and prioritisation skills, able to balance short term operational pressures with longer term improvement objectives.
- Comfortable operating with ambiguity and change, bringing structure without unnecessary bureaucracy.
- High sense of ownership and accountability.
- Passion for transformation and continuous improvement with a bias towards action and measurable outcomes.
