The Integrated Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) role will work the Substance Misuse Service (ISMS) across 5 areas within South Wales. This Service provides support, treatment and interventions for people within the criminal justice system who present with drug/alcohol and complex health needs which may be contributing towards the offending issues.
The post holder promotes trauma-informed, person-centred care and contributes to the overall service objective of addressing the underlying causes of substance-related offending, protecting individuals, families, and communities while improving long-term recovery outcomes.

- Undertake advanced clinical assessments for substance use
- Initiate, titrate and review Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST)
- Prescribe medication
- Assess withdrawal risk using recognised clinical tools
- Provide harm reduction interventions
- Contribute to multidisciplinary individualised care plans
- Deliver trauma informed and recovery oriented care
- Support continuity of care on admission, transfer, or release (secure settings)
- Participate in complex case reviews
- Prescribe within scope of competence and national guidelines
- Monitor medication effectiveness and safety
- Undertake medication reviews
- Ensure safe storage and administration of controlled drugs
- Work collaboratively with:
- GPs
- Recovery workers
- Probation and Custodial staff (secure estate)
- Participate in MDT meetings
- Provide specialist clinical advice to colleagues
- Support clinical governance and quality improvement
- Contribute to service audits and evaluations
- Mentor junior staff and nursing teams
- Promote best practice in substance misuse care
- Assist with pathway development and innovation
- Maintain accurate electronic patient records
- Report incidents via organisational systems
- Adhere to:
- NICE guidelines
- HIW standards
- National drug treatment frameworks
- Provide education on:
- Physical health improvement
- Registered Nurse (Adult or Mental Health)
- MRCGP Substance Misuse Part 1 & Part 2
- Current NMC registration
- MSc Advanced Clinical Practice (or working toward)
- Non Medical Prescribing Qualification (V300) or willingness to obtain
- Experience in substance misuse or addictions services
- Advanced clinical assessment skills
- Experience managing complex and vulnerable patients
- Prison or secure estate healthcare
- Dual diagnosis management
- Harm reduction services
- Community addictions services
- Structured and methodical
- Commercially aware and risk focused
- Confident leading people and making decisions
- Comfortable escalating risks and raising concerns where necessary
- Able to work autonomously within an operational environment
