Job Description
About You
  • Registered nurse (NMC) with recent post-registration experience in an acute setting
  • Strong clinical skills and confidence working autonomously
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • A commitment to delivering safe, compassionate, high-quality care
  • Leadership skills with the ability to support and guide others

Experience in endocrine nursing, outpatient services, or dynamic function testing is desirable, but training and support will be provided.

You will be proactive and above all, an excellent communicator. Understanding the importance of patient care you must have the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patients, recognising the specific needs of patients and relatives.

You will be involved in inspiring and supporting a diverse, well-established group through effective coaching and engaging team meetings.

Main duties of the job
  • Undertaking and coordinating dynamic function tests (DFTs)
  • Performing clinical observations, phlebotomy, cannulation and IV drug administration
  • Providing clear patient information to support informed consent
  • Supporting outpatient lipid clinics and managing follow-up appointments
  • Acting as a role model and supporting junior staff
  • Contributing to audit, service improvement and clinical governance
  • Supporting the clinical lead with agreed managerial and organisational duties

Job responsibilities

You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of CIU clinics, delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centred care. Working alongside consultants and fellow CIU nurses, you will be responsible for undertaking and coordinating dynamic function tests, supporting patients throughout their investigations, coordinating lipid clinics and contributing to the ongoing development of the service.

The nurse will be based on CIU RSCH, which is an outpatient unit. They will ensure smooth running of outpatients clinics and process dynamic function tests (DFTs) as necessary. She will also contribute to management of CIU.

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse Part 1 or 12
  • Recent post qualification or equivalent experience in acute setting
  • Demonstrates professional updating of knowledge in past one/two years
  • Teaching qualification ENB 998 or City & Guilds 730 or equivalent
Knowledge
  • 2 years' experience at E grade or above within acute hospital setting
  • Can demonstrate up-to-date clinical credibility / competence
  • Knowledge and understanding of current issues in acute NHS setting
  • Knowledge of clinical governance issues such as complaints handling, clinical risk management
  • Evidence of research based practice
  • Evidence in changing practice and project management
  • Dynamic function tests
