Job Description

A respected, established national charity in the social care sector is seeking an experienced and highly strategic communications consultant for a high-impact, focused 1-month strategy. This organisation is financially stable through core statutory funding but requires a senior external perspective to analyse current communications activities, clearly define key audiences, and create a clear, measurable strategy that elevates the organisation's brand, values, and visibility across the sector.

This project is an opportunity for a senior strategist to own the communications roadmap and provide clear, expert direction to the internal team and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • The consultant will conduct a comprehensive review of all current communication efforts and channels, including social media and the external website, to identify successes, gaps, and areas for critical improvement.

  • They will define and segment core target audiences, including statutory partners, internal staff, service users, and new audiences critical for brand visibility and future fundraising support.

  • The role involves developing a clear framework to articulate the organisation's core brand, values, and impact, providing advice on tactics to increase public knowledge and positive sentiment.

  • The consultant will design a clear, actionable, and measurable communications strategy and plan covering the next 12-18 months, which includes identifying key objectives and setting clear Key Performance Indicators to monitor success and brand perception.

  • They will create a practical implementation roadmap for the existing communications resource, defining responsibilities and advising on the best tactical approach for engaging with Commissioners and increasing brand outreach.

  • The role requires close collaboration with the existing part-time Communications Officer and any external website agencies, providing clear strategic direction and integrating their workstreams into the cohesive new plan.

  • The consultant will provide expert advice to the CEO and Board on translating operational issues and financial needs into transparent, effective communications.

Person Specification

  • Proven experience at a strategic level in developing and implementing organisational communication strategies, ideally within the charity or public sector.

  • A strong background in conducting communications audits, stakeholder mapping, and building measurable strategic frameworks from inception.

  • Demonstrable expertise in identifying and targeting diverse audiences.

  • Ability to quickly understand complex operational and financial contexts and translate them into accessible and focused communication plans and messages.

  • Strong advisory skills, capable of guiding senior leaders and providing clear direction to small internal teams and external agencies.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an outstanding eye for detail and consistency.

What s on Offer:

  • A daily rate £200-£288 umbrella (PAYE rates also available)
  • An initial one month contract with the chance of an extension.
  • Full or part time hours available, 3,4 or 5 days
  • A flexible working set up, some travel to London and the charity's locations will be required.
