The Role

The Asset Operations function forms the cornerstone of service delivery to customers, protecting the environment and meeting regulatory standards, while managing the majority of operational expenditure. It oversees operational and maintenance strategy, policies, planning, and standard operating procedures for water and wastewater operations nationally and regionally, ensuring value for money and customer service.

The Integrated Operations function monitors the performance of the operating environment, identifies and manages risks to service continuity, and places a customer-first approach at the forefront of Asset Operations activities. This includes performance of the asset base, production optimisation, and network integrity during interventions.

The ICA team ensures the operation of UÉ's asset base and the quality of data used by field, telemetry, and NOMC teams. The Instrumentation, Control & Automation Operational Technology Supervisor leads a geographically dispersed team of Site Operational Technology operatives, ensuring excellent response to operational needs and covering planned and reactive ICA activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage planned and reactive instrumentation, controls and automation (ICA) maintenance and repair activities across the UÉ asset base within a geographical area.
• Lead, support and develop a team to provide ICA maintenance and repair services.
• Coordinate instrumentation, controls and automation tasks with internal teams and external contractors, including fault finding, signal testing, calibration of field instrumentation, and maintenance of communication systems and controllers.
• Ensure the team operates in line with defined operational competencies, health and safety requirements, QA systems and procedures.
• Manage the budget allocated to the team and approve purchases.
• Oversee material consumption, vehicle and equipment distribution within the area.
• Maximise team effectiveness through coaching, training and performance management.
• Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures to maximise quality and efficiency.
• Handle resource management, including meetings, productivity, vehicle utilisation, and periodic performance reviews and recommendations.
• Oversee policy implementation and safe working practices.
• Ensure reports and direct reports operate and maintain Irish Water vehicles in line with vehicle, health, safety and security policies; monitor driver compliance and report vehicle defects.
• Ensure accurate information is recorded and reported for audits.
• Investigate escalated customer complaints and report actions taken to resolve.
• Maintain inventory stores to provide critical spares as required.
• Support incident and emergency response coordination, ensuring health and safety standards are met.
• Participate in out-of-hours and standby work as required.
• Monitor and report KPIs for processes under ownership.
• Manage field-based teams and deliver timely internal communications.

General Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders across UÉ.
• Promote and deliver health and safety commitments across UÉ and its supply chain, reinforcing positive behaviours and objectives to high industry standards.
• Support the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme and organisation-wide objectives.
• Provide visible leadership, coach and develop your team, promote collaboration, and set expectations for behaviours.
• Adhere to Information Security policies and controls to protect UÉ information and critical services in accordance with the NIS Directive and relevant cybersecurity regulations.
• Other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Relevant third level qualification and/or accreditation is desirable.
• Minimum 3 years' relevant experience; experience in water, utilities or related industries is desirable.
• Full, clean and valid Irish category B driving licence; a clean licence means no convictions under the Roads Acts (except for points only offences).
• Demonstrated people management ability, proactive development, motivation and engagement of staff.
• Experience managing a team with strong people, change management and conflict resolution skills; experience in day-to-day operational management of direct reports.
• Highly motivated, professional, and capable of delivering results within a team.
• Strong analytical skills; ability to identify problems and propose and implement solutions.
• Demonstrates adaptability and the ability to change focus in line with business strategy.
• Proactively identifies new areas of improvement and applies learning on the job.
