Job Summary

WEST ABE is a consortium of educational sites within school districts and four county jails to help adults acquire basic skills. Monticello is the fiscal agent. This position involves providing direct instruction to adults in an Adult EL program in STMA evenings from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. (time can be adjusted) plus a 1.5-hour prep per class. Up to 40 paid professional development hours are available annually.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct instruction to adult students who are working to improve their English skills.
  • Administer student assessments, return student phone calls, monitor student attendance, and complete necessary student record keeping.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid MN teaching license for teaching English as a Second Language, or a bachelor's or master's degree in English as a second language, applied linguistics, or bilingual education.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and function well in a busy environment.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Computer experience and comfort with Internet, email, and Google apps preferred.
  • Must be physically working in the building/onsite.
Certification and Experience
  • Current MN Teaching License required.
  • Previous experience teaching within an adult basic education program, experience providing online instruction, and working with diverse populations, preferred.
  • Computer skills required; knowledge of MS Office/Google.
  • Strong leadership and time management skills required.
  • Effective decision making skills while acting within district policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information about students, families, and staff.
  • Experience working with diverse students and families.
Compensation

Starting hourly wage: $28.31 per hour.

Training will begin immediately after hire.
