The primary responsibility of this role is the ongoing enhancement and support of RiverStone International's IT infrastructure (servers, databases, network, firewalls etc), supporting both the current business operations and future strategic growth. This includes supporting the evolution and execution of the organisation's cloud strategy.
Responsibilities
Leadership:
- Oversee and inspire a team of senior infrastructure professionals and build solid relationships with key third party vendors.
- Lead by example - as a hands-on technologist who is willing and excited to roll up sleeves and assist in implementation where capacity constraints or business demand requires it.
- Create a culture of learning and knowledge sharing as the team evolves from an historically on-prem focused one to in time an increasingly DevOps and cloud-first practice.
- Create a new global infrastructure function by bringing the Brighton, London and US colleagues together under a single team and vision.
- Ensure that the RiverStone infrastructure supports modern technologies and aligns with the needs of the business, working closely application development and cybersecurity.
- Oversee the reliability and performance of IT infrastructure, including BAU support, maintenance, and both tactical and strategic infrastructure changes.
- Plan for future growth and recommend adaption of modern technologies, articulating current, interim and future state architectures to support business decisioning.
- Report and deliver on IT projects, working closely with the IT Project Managers to adequately plan for resource.
- Maintain disaster recovery plans and a schedule of regular testing against various scenarios.
- Identify and recommend cost-effective investments in IT infrastructure in support of financial planning and budgeting.
- Monitor the performance of cloud systems, optimizing them for efficiency and ensuring high availability, with transparent cloud cost reporting enabling effective management of costs.
- Ensure the security of all on-prem and cloud infrastructure.
- Identify and remediate of end-of-life technologies within agreed timescales.
- Oversee adherence to the RiverStone Information Security and Cloud Security policy and standards across the infrastructure estate.
- Execute vulnerability management & patching within agreed SLAs and timescales.
- Develop and implement the RiverStone cloud strategy in conjunction with the Solution Architect and wider team.
- Work closely with the RiverStone application development team and system integrator partner on the design, build and maintenance of a new cloud-based insurance platform, with timely delivery to a high standard in support of programme milestones.
- Adopt common standards and drive architectural alignment across the estate, identifying and realising business benefits in doing so.
Requirements
- Educated to Degree level
- Insurance industry or broader Financial Services exposure
- 10+ years in a Infrastructure Manager role (desirable)
- Demonstrable experience of cloud implementations and migrations, cloud architecture
- Certification credentials in one or more of ITIL, CISSP, CCNA, CITP, CCSP, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- Familiarity with regulatory environment and risk management frameworks
- Demonstrable prior experience of migration projects moving from legacy systems to new/updated platforms (software/hardware/integration layer) and able to articulate role(s) played
- Proficiency in network architecture, server administration, storage systems, and information security.
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMware and Docker.
- Experience in developing and implementing disaster recovery plans and managing IT risks.
- Proficiency in major cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), Cloud Security and Data Management practices.
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools, such as CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes), helps in automating and streamlining cloud operations a bonus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven leadership abilities with experience in guiding and mentoring technical teams.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders across different regions.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyse complex systems and propose innovative solutions.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and technologies.
