Infrastructure Engineer - Inside IR35 - Glasgow - Hybrid
Day Rate - up to £465
Duration - 12 months
Harvey Nash's FS Client are looking to bring in a contract Infrastructure Engineer. You will be onsite 3 days per week in Glasgow, sitting within the Ops team. You will carry out tasks such as:
Responsibilities- Design, implement, and automate configuration management for a large-scale, global VCF-based virtualization platform using Python and Ansible.
- Engineer and integrate APIs to provide infrastructure-on-demand and seamless interaction between on-prem and third-party tools.
- Lead lab-based testing, certification, and integration of new hardware and software components into existing environments.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather requirements and architect scalable, resilient solutions.
- Ensure technical alignment with vendor best practices and internal standards for reliability, automation, and security.
- Work independently to deliver on aggressive project timelines and resolve complex technical challenges.
- Extensive experience automating infrastructure tasks (installation, configuration, management) using Python.
- Hands-on experience with automation frameworks (Ansible, Python) and Infrastructure as Code practices.
- Deep understanding of virtualization technologies, ideally VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) or vSphere.
- Strong technical fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, Linux, distributed systems.
- Experience integrating APIs and automating workflows across hybrid infrastructure stacks.
- Familiarity with software version control, CI/CD pipelines, and modern SDLC practices.
- Hands-on expertise with VMware's suite (VCF, vSphere, vSAN) in both greenfield and brownfield rollout scenarios.
- Knowledge of software testing methodologies for infrastructure automation.
- Experience with other programming languages (e.g., Go, PowerShell, Bash).
- Strong communication skills and ability to develop relationships with the Business Unit, internal stakeholders, and the Vendor.
- Ability to operate in a pressurised environment and escalation as needed.
- Desire to question existing procedures and continually seek to improve processes.
