Job Description

Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinical Fellow Post

Duration: 12 months OOP

This is an exciting 12 month post for a Gastroenterology trainee wishing to gain further specialist experience in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) delivery in a large teaching hospital Gastrointestinal (GI) unit. The post also offers the opportunity to conduct clinical research, with time set aside within the job plan to facilitate this work.

The new Royal Liverpool Hospital is home to an IBD Team, historically known as a centre of excellence for IBD nationally and internationally. The team serves over 4,000 patients with IBD from across Merseyside, Cheshire, the Wirral, North Wales, Isle of Man, and other parts of the UK, offering a wide range of specialist services, including transitional care and obstetric IBD clinics.

The successful applicant will spend the full 12 months exclusively with the IBD Team at the Royal Liverpool Hospital site. Responsibilities include service development and delivery with IBD patients, supporting research, quality improvement and teaching activities. The candidate may register for a higher degree with the University of Liverpool (or another university) provided there is sufficient time within the job plan for research, quality improvement and teaching.

It is expected that the successful candidate will author or co author a number of papers or abstracts, learn basic research methods and skills, and, where possible, attend major IBD conferences such as ECCO, DDW and the BSG. Opportunities may arise to serve as principal investigator (PI) or co PI on one or more research studies.
