Looking for a practical, hands-on role where the work you do can make a real difference?

As an Industrial River Worker, you'll join DfI Rivers Operations, helping to maintain Northern Ireland's watercourses and supporting work that reduces the risk to life and property from flooding. You'll work as part of an operational team carrying out a varied range of outdoor maintenance and construction activities. From clearing watercourses and cutting vegetation to fencing, pipe laying and concreting, this is a role where no two days have to look the same. You'll also play an important part in DfI Rivers' response to flood emergencies, including responding to calls outside normal working hours when required. Full training will be provided where necessary. This is a practical role for people who enjoy hands-on work and want to see the impact of what they do.

To apply, you must, by the closing date for applications:

1. Have a minimum of 1 year's full-time experience in drainage and associated works which must include at least 3 of the following: pipe laying, shuttering, fencing, trench supports, concreting, block laying, plastering, joinery, flagging, kerbing and construction works.

AND

2. At least 1 year's full-time experience in the use of power tools which must include at least 3 of the following: water pumps, cement mixers, concrete saw, jackhammer, chainsaw, strimmer, concrete poker, vibrating plate, and knowledge of the health and safety requirements necessary for their operation.

AND

3. A full valid driving licence which permits the licence holder to drive in Northern Ireland.

AND

4. A permanent residence within 20 miles travelling distance by public road of at least one of the advertised post locations. Distance will be measured by RAC Route Planner (full postcode to full postcode via the "shortest route"). This is to enable Rivers Operations to meet the Department's targets to effectively deliver services to customers, particularly in respect of response to flooding emergencies.
