Job Description
Overview

The Independent Chair Service (ICS) provides independent reviewing and co ordination of the care plans of looked after children, child protection plans, Care Leavers and plans for children in need subject to supervision orders. The service group also includes strategic safeguarding responsibilities including the Local Authority Designated Officer function, missing children, safeguarding children in education, child criminal exploitation and child sexual exploitation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent chairing of complex meetings and coordinate reviews using a strengths based approach.
  • Monitor the performance of the Local Authority's function as a corporate parent.
  • Ensure the voice of the child is promoted and communicate with children.
  • Define high quality practice standards to improve outcomes for looked after children.
  • Problem solve, organise and manage time effectively under pressure.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Professional social work qualification.
  • Minimum of five years post qualification experience, including experience of providing social work supervision and support.
  • Experience chairing complex meetings and working constructively with senior managers.
  • Thorough understanding of the legal framework, regulations and guidance relating to looked after children, care leavers.
  • Knowledge of representation and complaints processes/procedures.

Appointment to this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check. The role requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, independence, and ability to challenge where necessary.
