  • Lead setup and ongoing enhancement of regional legal and compliance frameworks aligned with company policies and local laws across Southeast Asia.
  • Monitor and analyze legal, regulatory and compliance developments that may affect business operations or strategy; translate those into actionable guidance and risk mitigations.
  • Provide timely, pragmatic, and strategic legal advice to regional and local management on commercial transactions, corporate governance, regulatory matters, litigation and enforcement risk.
  • Design, implement and maintain region-wide compliance programs, including policies, controls, risk assessments, monitoring, reporting and training.
  • Develop and deliver compliance training and awareness programs for regional and local teams.
  • Manage relationships with external counsel, regulatory authorities and relevant industry bodies; coordinate responses to regulatory inquiries, investigations and audits.
  • Provide periodic reporting on legal and compliance risk posture, trends and key metrics to HQ
Job Requirements
  • Fluent in Japanese (Level N1) to communicate with Japan Headquarters and other overseas offices
  • Law degree (LLB, JD or equivalent); admitted to practice in at least one relevant jurisdiction.
  • At least 15 years of legal and compliance experience
  • Demonstrated experience establishing or scaling legal/compliance functions in multi-jurisdictional settings.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate, commercial, regulatory and compliance matters relevant to the industry (e.g., competition/antitrust, anti-bribery and corruption, data protection, trade controls, employment law).
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply local laws across multiple jurisdictions and to provide practical business-focused advice.
  • Experience managing external counsel and interfacing with regulators and government bodies.
  • Track record of developing and implementing compliance programs, policies and training.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and negotiation skills; able to influence senior leaders.
