The Maternity Immunisation Nurse is a key member of the maternity and public health team, responsible for delivering safe, effective, and compassionate immunisation services to pregnant women and birthing people. This role supports national vaccination programmes and contributes to improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes.
Working across antenatal clinics, maternity units, and community settings, the nurse provides vaccinations such as Pertussis, Flu, COVID-19, and RSV, ensuring timely protection for both mother and baby. The role involves clinical assessment, vaccine preparation and administration, and patient education, all within a multidisciplinary framework.
Main duties of the jobKey Responsibilities:
- Deliver maternity immunisations in line with NHS and Public Health England guidelines.
- Conduct clinical assessments and review medical histories to ensure safe vaccine administration.
- Prepare and administer vaccines using aseptic techniques.
- Provide clear, empathetic communication to support informed decision-making.
- Collaborate with midwives, obstetricians, public health teams, and support staff.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to audits and service evaluations.
- Support outreach and engagement activities to improve vaccine uptake.
- Escalate clinical concerns appropriately and contribute to safeguarding processes.
Skills & Attributes:
- Registered Nurse (NMC) with experience in immunisation or maternity care.

Purley War Memorial Hospital (PWMH) in the south of the borough offers outpatient care, including diagnostic services, physiotherapy and ophthalmology services run by Moorfields Eye Hospital, alongside an onsite GP surgery.
Our experienced district nursing teams, Allied Health Professionals and community matrons look after for people of all ages across Croydon and our Children's Hospital at Home cares for children with long-term conditions without them having to come to hospital.

Person Specification Education and Experience- Registered Nurse with a minimum 1 year post - registration experience
- Evidence of recent relevant professional development & acquisition of Nursing competencies
- Educated to degree level
- Nursing practice experience including completion of a Preceptorship Programme
- Public Health qualification or study day
- Experience of administering vaccinations.
- Experience of undertaking clinical audit and analysis of findings
- Experience of data collection and compilation of statistics.
- Demonstrate knowledge of NHS maternity vaccination programme.
- Good understanding of statutory training requirements within Nursing
- Excellent understanding of local and national safety agendas within maternity
- Clear understanding of midwifery Immunisation issues and an up-to-date knowledge of current NHS developments within maternity services
