IDAR and Elgar Ward Admin and Clerk

The post holder must be able to demonstrate motivation and adaptability to the fast paced environment in IDAR (Infectious Diseases Assessment Room) Clinic and Elgar Ward with great communication skills both verbal and written.

Main duties of the job
  • TCI admissions for day case patients in IDAR, scheduling of clinic appointments and liaising with the Infectious Diseases outpatient team when required.
  • Work collaboratively with ward clerk colleagues to provide full administrative, reception and clerical support to the ward.
  • Input and retrieve information in Cerner EPR.
  • Maintain data quality of all activity.
  • Work collaboratively with others to meet the needs of patients and families.
  • Support the admission and discharge of patients within the Unit.
  • Perform clerical and some housekeeping duties as delegated by the Service Manager or Clinical Nurse Manager.
  • Work cooperatively with others on the ward to ensure good inter-disciplinary teamwork.
  • Communicate with the multidisciplinary team members, families and the patient in a professional manner.
  • Assist with general administrative tasks within the unit such as preparing admission paperwork, filing, archiving notes and providing paper documents required by the whole team to facilitate day to day running of the ward.
  • Answer the telephone and communicate key messages to the Nurse In Charge.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations, being aware of own competence and asking for assistance as required.
  • Provide cover for other ward clerks in the department during periods of absence.

Person Specification Education/Qualifications
  • Good basic numeric and literacy skills.
  • GCSE grade A-C in English and Maths or equivalent.
  • NVQ Level 2 in office admin or equivalent.
  • NVQ in customer care or equivalent.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Computer literate, good basic IT skills and Cerner trained.
  • Experience of dealing with the public by phone and in person and experience of working in a busy environment.
  • Evidence of maintaining effective office systems.
  • Effective verbal, written and electronic communication.
  • Previous NHS experience and/or caring environment.
  • Knowledge of patient administration systems.
  • Working within a team.

  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Ability to work across a multi professional team.
