Hydraulic Modelling Graduate Programme

The Graduate Programme, Hydraulic Modelling, is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with a passion for critical thinking, data analysis and solution development to embark on their career within the water industry, working on an extensive portfolio of innovative projects.

You will be part of an award-winning team responsible for the building and maintenance of computer models providing valuable insight into our network issues and investment needs as well as enabling the development of sustainable infrastructure solutions.

From enhancing our beautiful rivers and coastlines to reducing the risk of flooding to homes - our hydraulic modelling team is at the forefront of innovation.

This is an incredible opportunity to develop your skills and expertise in a fast paced environment. You will gain real world experience in modelling software, GIS and data analytics providing world class insight across the entire organisation and to its stakeholders, supply chain and customers. You will undertake hydraulic analysis and interpret results, provide technical input for engineering and planning teams as well as reporting and communicating to a range of stakeholders.

The opportunities to grow as an individual are vast and you will be mentored by outstanding leaders within the modelling team and the wider Engineering and Sustainability Directorate.

Upon completion of the Graduate Programme, you will have the opportunity to progress to more junior management or senior technical roles within our Asset Management team.

Applicants MUST be able to demonstrate in their application and where necessary at interview:

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

1. Candidates will be required to undertake competency-based tests within a computer based assessment. These tests will assess candidates' essential skills, literacy, numeracy and other key aptitudes for the role. In order to progress to the next stage of the selection process, candidates must achieve a satisfactory score in all key areas. All candidates must provide a personal email address on their application form which will be required to undertake the computer-based assessment skills tests.

2. Have attained a minimum 2:2 Honours Degree or equivalent qualification in a Geography, Environmental, Engineering or Information Systems discipline by 1st August 2026.

3. Within a course of study or otherwise, provide evidence of practical experience in data analytics tools, including at least one of the following: Microsoft PowerBI or GIS.

4. Within a course of study or otherwise, provide evidence of experience of utilising a variety of media including, analytics, reports and presentations.

5. Have the right to live and work in the UK. Please note NI Water is unable to provide sponsorship for visa applicants, as such applicants must hold the right to work in the UK to be eligible for this role. You will be required to provide evidence of your right to work in the UK before an offer of employment is made.

6. Access to a form of transport which will enable them to meet the requirements of the post in full, including attendance at training.

Salary

Starting salary for the role is £28,645 (pay award pending) OR applicable National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage.
