Job Description

At M&S, we're modernising our estate and investing heavily in the performance, sustainability, and resilience of our stores. As part of this transformation, we're looking for a highly skilled HVAC & Refrigeration Manager to shape the future of our building services, uplift operational standards, and drive meaningful energy efficiencies across our portfolio. This role plays a critical part in how our stores are powered, cooled, and maintained-today and for the future.

Due to high interest, this role may close earlier than advertised. We recommend applying as soon as possible.

What you'll be doing

Your main focus will be to influence the design of HVAC and refrigeration solutions from the outset, working closely with teams to set innovative standards for M&S building services.

Influence design reviews and technical sign off, challenging lifecycle cost, maintainability, access, and projected energy performance.

Ensure flawless project handover through high quality commissioning, accurate asset tagging, and robust O&M documentation aligned with FM requirements.

Build and manage a rolling remediation plan addressing defects, obsolescence, safety risks, and system criticality, embedding permanent fixes through root cause investigations.

Set technical standards and operational procedures for FM partners (including City FM), verifying delivery through audits, data insights, and governance of major repairs, changeovers, spares, and warranty recovery.

Drive energy and performance optimisation by partnering with the Energy Efficiency Manager to identify high ROI interventions and analysing system performance (kWh/m , load profiles, runtimes) to deliver targeted improvements.

Who you are

A technically strong engineer with experience in commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems.

Skilled in design standards, commissioning processes, and system optimisation.

Confident influencing stakeholders, challenging suppliers, and driving continuous improvement.

Data driven with a passion for energy efficiency, performance optimisation, and sustainable operation.

Someone motivated by making a meaningful impact in an organisation committed to innovation and future focused store environments.

  • Competitive holiday allowance with the option to buy more
  • Discretionary bonus schemes linked to your performance and ours
